Basic Function: The Production Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining production systems for RIAG products (CD ROM, etc.). The key aspect of this position is the design and implementatation of systems applications to support a rapidly expanding electronic product line, and upgrading existing systems and processes. Heavy emphasis on QA applications, configuration management and version control, increasing system capacity and throughput and developing interfaces with other editorial systems.

The Production Systems Engineer works under the direct supervision of the Manager, EPP Systems and with production personnel on an ongoing basis. Direct interfaces with the Information Technology organization to ensure system designs are consistent with company IT strategies and policies. Knowledge and Experience: Systems design and programming for composition or editorial systems, or data conversion for a publishing, compositor, data conversion bureau. Hands-on knowledge of sophisticated, state-of-the-art publishing systems and tools. Must be able to perform work using multiple computer operating systems (DOS, OS/2, etc.). Experience working with outside vendors, preferred. Experience in text-based manipulation programming in a MS DOS/Windows environment preferred, with knowledge of hypertext applications or concepts. Experience working with SGML data.
