Contemplating the Boundaries
[reverse]
Contemplating the Boundaries came about while I was contemplating the boundries of my own life, how much they can be shaped by me, and how much of an advantage or a burden that provides for me. In contract, I thought of the Amish women, who have little say in the shape of their life's boundries, but who, instead of feeling confined by these applied definitions (as I have no doubt been taught to do), seem to instead be freed by them. Not for an Amish woman to decide who she will be or what role she plays, and the energy I might put into that struggle is instead well placed by my Amish sister in making a joyful home and world. The top and back piecing, while modern when summed up, draw heavily from the traditional colors, piecing and designs of the Lancaster Amish of the 19th and 20th Century. The intricate quilting design displays another classic Amish design and the border quilting is a modern twist on the familiar featherd vine quilting pattern popular in wide Pennsylvania Amish borders.
