Junk man in San Francisco, 1946 (Kodak Baby Brownie )  ©Bernie Fox 2006-2007

I have been an amateur  photographer since the age of twelve.  My first camera was a Kodak Baby Brownie.  I also bought a Kodak darkroom kit which consisted of a film developing tank, a contact print light box, developing trays, paper and all the chemicals.  My excitement at seeing those images come up in the developer was the beginning of my utter fascination with photography.

My first big upgrade was to a Ciroflex, a US copy of a Rolleiflex.  When I was overseas in the Air Force in the late 50's I graduated to a 35mm Nikon S2 (the second rangefinder camera Nikon made), 2 bodies and 4 lenses and I built a custom case to hold it all.

I have been through a number of cameras since and now I am an enthusiastic user of the Nikon D70 digital SLR.  I love the versatility and ease of producing images with a computer and photo editing software (even though I miss the smell of hypo).

Growing up and living in the San Francisco Bay Area all these years with the exceptional light and ambiance this area offers, my interest and fascination with using a camera to create images has steadily grown.

Also, you may notice photos which represent my interest in left-progressive political issues.  I am a volunteer activist with A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War And End Racism).
