Hello ladies,
My how time flies! Very soon now it will be time to get out those golf clubs, dust off the cobwebs, and get into the “swing” of things!
First, I would like to thank all of the league members, friends, and spouses who helped to make the 2008 golf season such a success. Also, thanks to Cheryl Oiler for her superb work as our league’s Treasurer last year (Cheryl is returning this season in the same capacity). Finally, a special thanks to Victoria and Andrew Bogacz, owners of Rockingham Country Club (R.C.C. or “The Rock”), the golf course maintenance crew, and the club house staff for providing a wonderful golfing environment.
The league is now forming! We are hoping to get a minimum of 40 regular members and 6 (or more) substitutes. As in past years, all members of last year’s league are guaranteed a spot on this year’s roster provided that you return your entry form (page 1 only) with payment of membership fee by the deadline of March 25, 2009.
The “Stableford” points system will be the format for league play again this year. This system of play allows golfers of all handicaps to score equitably. The “Team Matches” will remain in place for the 2009 season as well.
As in past years, the league will be held on Monday evenings. It will begin on May 4 and end on August 17. There will be no golf on May 25 and June 29 to allow all to celebrate these holidays with their family and friends.
Our league’s last tee-time will be at 5:30 p.m. We will let you know the starting tee-time at the opening banquet (usually around 3:45 p.m.).
Due to the slow economy, we have decreased league membership fees this year as follows:
Regular member Substitute member
2008 $85.00 $60.00
2009 $75.00 $50.00
(The lower membership fees will most likely be reflected in lower “prize awards” at the year-end banquet.) Also, we are offering three payment plans this year for your convenience. Please refer to page 2 of the 2009 Membership Registration form (attached).
Additional fees (NOT included in your League membership fees):
R.C.C. is also doing their part this year to help “stabilize the economy”. The Rock’s rates remain the same as
the 2008 season as follows:
Green Fees: $20.00 (per 9-hole round)
Senior (65+) Green Fees: $18.00 (per 9-hole round)
Riding cart (optional): $14.00 for two people in a cart or $7.00 for one person in a cart (per 9-hole round)
Pull carts (optional): $2.00 (per 9-hole round)
Multi-play tickets: (11 ‘9-hole rounds’ for the price of 10…save $20.00 can be purchased for $200.00.
Senior (65+) Multi-play tickets: (11 ‘9-hole rounds’ for the price of 10…save $18.00) can be purchased
for $180.00.

Our opening banquet/meeting will be held on Monday, April 27th at Rockingham Country Club. We will review the individual and team play information at that time, so I encourage all players to attend (especially new players to the league). Our closing banquet will be held on Monday, August 24th; individual and team prizes will be awarded on this night. Also, as in 2008, the closing banquet will be a “pot luck” dinner with league members signing up to bring various dishes. The “pot luck” approach allows us to sample a variety of recipes, while keeping membership costs down.
On May 4, the opening day of play, the format will be a “Team Scramble”. This format allows all of you to meet your teammates prior to getting into the “competition” of the season, and will help to build team camaraderie.
On July 13, we will hold our annual “FUN-NIGHT / RALLY-FOR-THE-CURE” Breast-Cancer Awareness event. We are looking for volunteers to help with this event again this year. Last year’s event was a complete success primarily due to so many league members helping to solicit businesses for donations. We would like to get a “jump” on things this year; therefore, we have included a section on the bottom of the 2009 Membership Registration form to let us know if you would be interested in volunteering.
Excluding the opening night “Team Scramble” and the “Fun-Night”/”Rally for a Cure” event, we will have 12 weeks of regular league play. (Enclosed is the 2009 League Schedule for your convenience.)
There are two types of league members:
1) Regular league member: will be required to complete a minimum of 9 rounds of the scheduled 12 weeks
of regular league play to be eligible for individual prizes.
2) Substitute league member: A substitute can play every week whether she is substituting for a regular
member or not; however, it is not required that she do so.
However, to be eligible for individual prizes, a substitute will be required to
complete a minimum of 7 of the scheduled 12 rounds of regular league play.
If you anticipate that you can not complete at least 9 rounds of regular league play, it would be in your own
best interest (and that of team play) to become a substitute member instead of a regular league member.
To hold your position in the league, please return page 1 only of the enclosed “2009 Membership Registration Form” to Cheryl Oiler, by March 25, 2009, along with your check made out to “R.C.C. Women’s Golf League”. Do not forget to mark off whether you wish to be a regular member (and payment option) or a substitute member (and payment option).
