Radio Promotion |
|
Triage promotes a very wide spectrum of music. Our projects have included
rap, jazz, ambient, avant garde, foreign language music, spoken word, hip
hop; there is almost no style of music that we haven't promoted, although
40% of our projects are indie rock/indie pop and another 40% is
esoterica/avant garde.
We don't limit ourselves to a specific type of music that we promote. As
long as we like the music and we think it makes sense for our stations, we
will promote it, no matter how difficult the job may be.
We bill ourselves as a "reality-based" promotion company, which means that
we try to get our records on the radio in reality, not just in the realm of
perception. We also try to get real information out of our radio station
contacts. For example, if a record isn't doing well at a particular
station, we want to note that information as clearly as possible, rather
than trying to paint the best face on a bad situation. This way our clients
know where they are really liked and also know where they are not.
This focus on reality has a lot to do with our most important goals as
promoters: getting records exposed to the public and stimulating record
sales. For us, hyping the chart is not the #1 priority. Most of our clients
are independent labels who must always keep their eye on the bottom line
and get the best value for their money, and we aim to do that for them.
We tailor an individual plan for each record that we promote. Although
there are many similarities for most projects, each one is fully considered
on its own and planned for individually.
In general, we work with about 250 "core" stations. These are stations
which we deem important, viable and somewhat influential in their area.
Depending on the goals and resources of a project, we can either increase
our promotion base or decrease it.
Most of our projects are sent to the station directly from our office, but
this is not a required condition in order for us to become involved with a
project. However, it is usually easier, cheaper and more effective for the
client when we handle the shipping. We provide this service at cost for
projects which we are promoting.
Everyone at Triage is responsible for certain regions. They act as the sole Triage representative for their regions; that way the promoter gets to know the area better and a stronger relationship is established between Triage and the stations.
Every station is called as frequently as is needed to get the job done. For
some stations, that means every week, yet for others it means every third
week. Sometimes communication is primarily maintained via email.
Triage sends out its radio reports on a weekly basis, every Tuesday night.
Reports are either faxed, emailed or mailed depending on the preference of
the client.
