Rancho Cicada is a full-service retreat in a beautiful and secluded natural setting. Intimately nestled along the rocky banks of the Cosumnes River. They are especialy set up to accommodate private groups, parties, and organizations. Owner David Roberts, a former elementary school teacher with special interest in the natural sciences, has designed a retreat facility with minimum impact on the natural environment. Cicada (si-ka-de): an insect, having a broad head, membranous wings; and in the male a pair of resonating organs that produce a characteristic; high-pitched droning sound. (Probably of Mediterranean origin.)

Lodging

• They offer spacious 8'x 10' tents on leveled-wooden platforms. Their tent cabins are insect proof and areequipped with mattresses.
• Tent cabins are located in a beautiful riverside setting.
• Two cabins with additional features, like a full bath, are also available.

Recreational

• Swimming - Many private swimming holes and beaches along the river. Bring masks for great snorkeling.
• Rafting and Innertubing - Lots of fun with excellent runs in May and June. Some innertubes provided.
• Fishing - Trout in season, small mouth black bass and bluegill all summer. Bring your own equipment.
• Hiking - Many miles of hiking trails.
• 900 sq. ft. deck - Available for gatherings, dancing or group meetings.
• Hot tubs - Overlooking the river.
• Extensive Lawns - For croquet, volleyball and sunbathing.
• Hammocks - For those who need to just kick back.

Cooking

• Large barbecue with adjustable grill. Oak and Manzanita wood provided.
• Full gas kitchen with pots and pans, dishes and silverware is available for your use Sunday-Thursday only. Picnic tables provided for your convenience.
• On weekends (Friday-Sunday) and for private groups over 10 people, catering is available and encouraged.
• Refrigerator space is available during the week for your perishables.
• Bring ice chests for your soft drinks, beer, etc.

Sanitation

• Hot showers, flush toilets.
• Separate facilities for men and women.
• Natural deep-well water.

Nature

• Oak woodlands and pine forests converge in the valley of the Cosumnes River to make the hills of Rancho Cicada a very productive area, which attracts numerous bird and animal species.
• A nature walk led by a naturalist is always offered for groups.

Reservations

• A 50% deposit is required when reservations are made for single guests or couples. The balance is due in cash upon arrival.
• Private group reservations are made from January 1st through April 1st. After April 1st, individaul reservations may be made.
• For private group reservations, contact us for specifics.
• We encourage group organizers to visit Rancho Cicada prior to reserving exclusive use of the facility.
• We regret that no refunds can be made.

Guests Bring ...

• Sleeping bags and pillows.
• Flashlights (or battery lamps), one per person -- it gets very dark. Please: no kerosene or Coleman-type lanterns because of fire danger.
• Insect repellant.
• Old tennis shoes for river hiking. (No thongs or sandals on hiking trails.)
• Towels (for showers and swimming) and suntan lotion or sunscreen.
• Camera and binoculars for birding.
• Sleeping bag rental available at $5.00.
• No pets, firearms or drugs, please.
