Nathaniel's Opinion of the Coersive / Intolerable Acts
Nathaniel is a vicar, a countryside minister in the Anglican
church.
"I'm a simple man, following God's will in His Majesty's Church, and I know
the difference between right and wrong. I was appalled at the reckless destruction
of the tea in Boston Harbor. The vandals must pay back the loss. The rightful
authority of the King and the Parliament must be respected or the whole empire
will collapse and no one will win. Parliament, led by Prime Minister Lord
North, has tried to compromise by repealing most all of the taxes. They
cannot be weak and give in any more to these unreasonable colonials!
I do not like change, it makes me fearful. I like knowing our Mother Country
will keep us safe and protected. If these rebels have their way there will be
mob rule and more violence. A breakdown of law and order will only spell disaster.
The King must enforce these Coercive Acts, as a father must punish his misbehaving
children. Reasonable and peace-loving people must obey the Crown. "
