Welcome to BroFFA.org!

What is Brookline Families with Food Allergies all about?

This Website was developed in response to a growing need among families in Brookline, Massachusetts, to share information, tips, stories, and strategies in dealing with food allergies.

Many of us may already be members of The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (www.foodallergy.org) and/or The Asthma and Allergy Foundation (www.asthmaandallergies.org). These organizations—in addition to our physicians’ counsel, of course—no doubt provide most of our information. There is, however, opportunity to share at a local level. For example, do you know of a good bakery in the area? Did you have any strategies for entering kindergarten? Do you have any good tips for traveling or dining out? Any good restaurants?

Dealing with food allergies on an individual basis can at times be overwhelming. Our goal is to form a small community within the larger whole. The more information we can share, the more lessons we can learn, the easier it can be. We welcome comments from parents, students, everyone.

SIGN UP TODAY! We encourage you to join our mailing list to receive notification of new postings. Email broffa@rcn.com and include "Mailing List" in your Subject Tag. You may wish to include your specific allergen concerns in the Message Body.

Thank you!

Desensitization study at Children’s Hospital

from childrenshospitalblog.org: View a series of videos about Brett Nasuti, an 11-year-old Children’s Hospital Boston patient who was born allergic to 15 foods. Brett is the very first Children’s patient to go through a milk exposure desensitization trial—the first of its kind in the country—which could cure him of his severe milk allergy. In this video, you can watch Brett and his mom, Robyn, talk about what it’s been like for their family to live with his life-threatening condition and their hopes for the trial’s outcome.

Go Red Sox!

Once again the Red Sox will be offering peanut-allergy friendly seats at some games. So far, the Sox have announced this special section for two games: April 25 versus the Baltimore Orioles and September 19 versus the Toronto Blue Jays. These are both Sunday games scheduled for 1:35pm. There are both seats and standing room tickets available at the time.

Seats within this peanut-allergy friendly section cost $75 and SRO (Standing Room Only) cost $25.

Please contact Mike Lawlor at 617-226-6027 or at mlawlor@redsox.com and leave a phone number where Mike can reach you and how many tickets you would like to reserve.

Please email Ryan at rlatham@redsox.com to purchase tickets. They will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.
