To: cabbidge@javanet.comIt frightens me that this woman is heralded as an incredible, renowned
"expert" on women's health. My mother brought me to see Dr. Northrup when I
was 17 to determine my lack of menses. What followed was one of the most
frightening pelvic exams any young woman should have to endure....especially
since it was my first. It took me several years to trust another OB/GYN after
that. But this letter isn't about me. This is about my mother. She continued to see
Dr. Northrup even after my harrowing experience. Six years ago, she began
experiencing symptoms of menopause with severe low back pains and a very low
level of energy. Dr Northrup treated her with several different "remedies"
eventually settling on Epstein-Barr syndrome. In February of 1995, Dr.
Northrup was out of town, so my mother went to see a GP because her low back
pain was so severe, she couldn't eat or sleep. The GP immediately took X-rays
and found several masses in her abdomen. He scheduled exploratory surgery the
next day and found full blown Duke's D, level 4 colon cancer that had
metastasized on virtually every organ of her abdomen. Basically, he opened
her up and then closed her up.The next nine months saw my mother fight her hardest battle of her life and
ultimately lose it at the age of 51.While I too follow some holistic medicine treatments, I also trust my
instincts when I feel that a holistic treatment isn't working and then follow
Western medicine. My mother's misdiagnosis for over a year by Dr. Northrup
has really given me a wake up call. And I wish that all of these programs
that have Dr. Northrup on as a guest would hear us and, at the very least,
tell their viewers that these are alternative suggestions and not always
recognized as a tried and true medical treatment by FACOG, the AMA, etc.I feel for you!
Take care,

(Comment: In my case it was Dr. Northrup's withholding of the proper holistic treatment in favor of standard allopathic treatment that was the real issue. Although I do not agree with this writers view of the AMA, I totally understand her feelings. MLC)

Unfortunately, I no longer live in Maine. I have been in Colorado for the last 16
years. My family decided not to pursue a law suit against women for women and Dr.
Northrup because the pain we endured watching my mother suffer was enough that anyone
should have to stand and we felt a law suit would just prolong it. Feel free however,
to use my comments on your site.(name withheld)

Your posting is old, but I thought I'd try. I can't believe this woman is lauded and selling books! My daughter was nearly killed by the incompetence of this practice when Mary Ellen Fenn was still there in the early 90's. She suffered a great deal of pain, her systems started to shut down, and she was hospitalized for 28 days at Maine Medical. This quack, Northrup was on call that weekend. When we saw an attorney, he said there was definitely malpractice, but what's time, pain and suffering worth in dollars for a 17 year old! My daughter had a ruptured appendix for 3 days! They said it was PID.! I wish this incompetent bitch had been stopped in her tracks years ago.
Hi, I have no problem posting it. Women to Women is still in business. Marcelle Pick was the NP who told me she didn't think the pain was as bad as I was describing. My daughter was with a roommate who told me she had to crawl on all fours to get to the bathroom. When we took our daughter to hr hospital, the resident said she had to wait until morning for exploratory surgery and said she would have to have her uterus removed! She four surgeries to repair the original wound, it dehisced was treated, and had to have plastic surgery later on. Thanks (name withheld)
