Report Cards Report cards were distributed to all students on Friday, January 26th. If you have not seen your son’s/daughter’s report card or have a problem with any of the grades/comments, please give either the teacher or Mr. Carney a call at 881-0167. They will work with you to address all your questions and concerns. Valentine’s Day Dance I would like to continue the tradition of scheduling a Valentine’s Day Dance on the Thursday night prior to our Winter Vacation. This gives all our students a chance to attend this dance without interfering with those families that like to leave early for Winter Break. The dance will run from 6:30-9PM. This will get everyone home by 9:30PM. (Including the Principal!) I will work with the teachers to insure that no test are scheduled for Friday. This is always a fun dance and takes on a special meaning when it is scheduled during the week. Middle School Council Our Middle School Council has been meeting monthly. They have just completed a review of The Fiscal 2002 budget and the Curriculum of Studies For the 2001-2002 school year. The committee has also met with the Athletic Director to review the Middle School Athletic Brochure and to discuss some concerns parents have had about the middle school program. The next scheduled School Council meeting is Monday, February, 12th at 4:30PM in the Middle School Conference Room. Central District Music
Festival Ashland Middle School was well represented at the annual Massachusetts Central District Junior Audition with almost 40 choral and band students auditioning. The audition took place on Saturday, January 20 at the Sullivan Middle School in Worcester. We are pleased that the Ashland Middle School will be represented by four students who were selected to perform as members of the Chorus. Those students are Rachael Braunstein, Kelsey Bottazzi, Emily Martinez and Laura Olson. The students who were selected will attend two after school rehearsals at Blackstone-Millville Regional (March 20 and April 25) and will perform in the District Concert on Saturday, April 28 at Marlboro High School. Congratulations to all the young musicians who were involved in this event. Quebec Trip There are only a few weeks left until we leave for Quebec, Canada. We are very excited! All payments, documentation, and student information forms are due. There will be a brief and final meeting on Tuesday, February 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the Middle School Cafeteria. |

Girls Division winner was Tara Dorval – 9/10. They went on to the District Finals at the Danforth Museum. Dan Hood came in first again and will go on to the State Finals. Tara Dorval came in second place. National Geographic
Geography Bee On January 4th and 10th the middle school held its Second National Geographic Geography Bee. The Bee is an educational outreach program of the National Geographic Society. Questions from the Bee address the subject of geography in its broadest sense. The middle school had a wonderful turn out with 75 seventh and eighth grade students participating in the two day Bee. The final round found Pat Bigsby facing Ross Weisman for the right to move to the State Level Competition. Pat answered the following question correct to become Ashland Middle School’s National Geographic Geography Bee Champion 2001. Q. Which Central American country is famous for its coral reef, which is second in size to the Great Barrier Reef off Australia? A. Belize Congratulations Pat!! Travel Night We would like to thank all the families who participated in Travel Night here at the Middle School.
