CAM-Tech is divided into parts; each section meets for 7 weeks. Students rotate from area to area at the end of each 7-week session. The 5 areas of study included are: Computer Keyboarding, Art Appreciation, Music Appreciation, Introduction to Technology, and Family and Consumer Science. Since there are 5 rotations and only 4 marking periods in our school year, grades are placed on report cards in the following manner: the first rotation grade is placed on the first report card; the second rotation grade is placed on the second report card; the third rotation grade is placed on the third report card; and the fourth and fifth rotation grades are averaged together and placed on the fourth report card. At the end of the school year, the five numerical grades from each rotation are averaged to arrive at the final grade for the year. Students are familiarized with the computer keyboard, finger placement, and touch typing skills. Computer software is used that teaches the keyboard, develops accuracy, and once the student is keying accurately, enhances speed. After keyboarding instruction is completed, students will learn how to use a word processing package - Microsoft Word, as well as become familiar with most of the features. Next the class will learn about presentation software - Microsoft PowerPoint. We will also cover Internet Safety through I-safe and LiveWires. If students have completed all their assignments, they will be directed to work on their Study Island assignments. Since all of the work in this course is completed on software that resides on the district network, attendance is extremely important. This course is designed to develop keyboarding skills on the computer, to teach basic computer applications, and to instruct students about areas they will have to deal with in their personal lives. |
