Jurors Statement
It was difficult, so many good entries. Congratulations to those who won. There were many striking individual images. I regret that there were only so many prizes to give out. It would have been fun to pull them and create a show just with those. However, as the first prize is a one-person show, I was looking to see what would make a cohesive exhibition. All six slides had to be strong. I needed to consider only those submissions that were of one project or were recognizably the work of one photographer. If any of you are thinking of applying again it's important to edit well: not to just show "greatest hits" or how versatile you are. It should not be considered as a portfolio you would show an art director to land a job. The images you submit should converse with each other and have something to say and there should also be many more of the same sensibility at home as back up, in case you are the winner. It was a pleasure to see all the good work and I'm grateful to the volunteers who kept it going smoothly and organized. Their good company kept me from despair. Sylvia Plachy Back to Top |
