Currently, there are three choices for those who wish to
create virtual models on the Macintosh platform. All of the
software is available at http://www.ldraw.org/article/97

BrickDraw3D
OS X and OS 8.6+
developer release
Also a promissing start. Unfortunately I do not
have much experience with this program, so I cannot
comment effectively.

Mac
Brick CAD
OS X and OS 8.6+
beta release
Mac Brick CAD is a very capable viewer and
editor. The latest Cocoa (OS X) release contains a
"Part" browser.
This LDRAW editor is the most Mac like LDRAW editor
because the author, Andrew Allan, has written it
from the ground up as a Mac application.
|
LDGLite
for Mac OS X (only)
A very capable ".ldr" viewer/editor
This program is a port of a program that is
designed to run on multiple platforms (Mac OS X,
Windows, and Linux); thus, it is not very Mac like.
None the less, this program is an excellent choice
for those of us with less powerfull Macs eventhough
it breaks many of the Mac UI guidelines. By the
way, I used this editor to make the ".ldr" file for
my GP-30.
|
LDGLite allows Mac OS X users to view and edit LDRAW .dat
(or ".ldr") files, and it works very well. To be fair, it
takes a little while to get going, but the time spent is
well worth it.
Unfortunately, Macintosh stuff is missing from
LEGO®'s site. (The Mindstorms software is another issue;
I have been assured that Macintosh Mindstorms software is in
the works, but I was told it would be ready in 1999. Until
Mac Mindstorms is available there is a work around for
people who are desperate to build robots; the Dacta Robolab
software, available from
Pitsco , can be used to program the "computer brick".
Dave
Baum has a lot of information about using Mindstorms
with a
Macintosh including a programing language called
Not Quite C or NQC.)
Since I am a Macintosh owner and I felt neglected during
my visits to the official
LEGO® site--"Wall paper" has been available at
official
LEGO® site since its creation, but not a single PICT
for Macintosh Desktop Pictures has ever appeared--I put
together a few icons, and a desktop background.
As you can see the desktop background is a bit busy, and
it tends to hide icons, but if you want it drag-and-drop it
onto your desktop.
|
|

Each of these gifs makes a pretty good icon; just
drag-and-drop and copy and paste.

Ahh! There are
great LEGO® inspired desktops and awesome
Minifig inspired icons at
The
Icon Factory

This one isn't really Mac stuff it just happens
to be a PowerBook that has been bejeweled. I guess
you could glue LEGO to any computer that strikes
your fancy.

|
|
But to make a removable LEGO PowerBook cover you
must have an infamous PB1400...the only PowerBook
which is at the same time both maligned and ordered
(I'm sorry), that is, adored by its owners.
The hard part wasn't ruining the clear "book
cover" but oh the brand new blue
plates....(
a closer look )
