Chicago and Illinois Maps Online

A collection of interesting online maps from other people's pages.

The Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee corridor project has a series of real-time traffic congestion maps, including:
A map of the Chicago Pedway from a Chicago Department of Transportation publication.
An official Illinois Road Map, from the Illinois Department of Transportation. This link is not working as of 7/24/01, but when it does work, it has lots of nifty features, including a state park locator. Best of all, the map contains exit information lacking from other publications, helping you plot a route around Illinois' numerous half interchanges.
IDOT also offers RouteMap Illinois a impressive-looking Java applet. (Unfortunately, this applet does not seem to play well with Netscape, but seems to work OK with Internet Explorer.)
IDOT also has paper maps you can order, some free, some for a small fee. You can order free copies of the Illinois Highway Map online, but you must call or write to get the others.

A correspondent spotted this Chicago Bicyling Map, apparently the map that's "under construction" for the official city web site (see below).
The citywide Chicago Bicycling Map, also from the Chicago DOT. Well, there used to be an online map here, now it's "under construction", and unforntunately, unlike road construction, there is no season to web construction. But at least there's an address for you to request a paper copy if all else fails.

Chicago Transit Authority system maps show you how to get there on public. Nice job, CTA!
An alternative CTA rail map, from France, no less, part of the subwaynavigator.com site. Interactive, too.
The commuter rail map from Metra, shows you how to get out of town on public.
You'll find maps for suburban bus routes at PACE, but you'll need to drill down on this site, which uses frames. Also, the maps seem to be not very detailed scans, and I found myself squinting with my nose near the screen. There doesn't seem to be a map of the entire system, so it helps to know your route number in advance.
