I was born January 31, 1929, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and...
- studied physics at MIT (AB,1951) and astronomy and astrophysics
at Harvard (PhD, 1956).
- spent most of my career studying the atmospheres of stars
and the behavior of variable stars, especially those that pulsate;
- have also written on
- history of astronomy,
- astronomy in the art of Vincent van Gogh,
- celestial navigation,
- science education
- autobiography.
I am currently working on a book on education.
