The video on Godzilla was astounding! Definitely reference quality. The picture was crystal clear and darkness was beautiful. Everything just was great. There is absolutely no problem with the transfer whatsoever. I couldn't find any artifacts or anything, it was great! You could see every scale on Godzilla. You could see every drop of water. It's so clear, well, I guess that's a common trait of DVD, but it was much clearer than the majority that I've seen. It was superb. If you want to boast about DVD, here's a DVD that does it beautifully.
Also, reference quality, in a way. If you want to boast about your .1 channel (the LFE), then here's your reference DVD. Godzilla's every step shook my room. Buildings crumble, explosions here and there, missle flying everywhere breaking down everything, which brings out the lovely bass in movies, and Dolby Digital does it nicely. The only thing that I didn't like was that in some of the "Fire At Will" scenes, there were many missle shots. The missles would come from a helicopter you see ahead of you, then they shoot the missles. They come directly at you, and they pass you, but the surrounds didn't pick up. I only wished that they were. That's the reason for the 1/2 drop. If those shots were there, I'd give this DVD a 6! It would have boasted Dolby Digital's separating of the surround channel very nicely. In other words, it had potential, but didn't do it all the way. I'm not saying every missle shot didn't use it, but the somes of the ones that had a lot of potential, didn't. Other than the surrounds, the rest of it was great! Actually, in everything but the missle scenes, the surrounds did a very nice job. This is one of those movies where you get the full excitement when you play it loud. Great audio!
This DVD was amazing! It had so many features! It was just about or really close to a New Line Platinum Edition (which have LOTSA extras). If you go down and look at what's included, you'll be surprised. After you know what's on there, you have to see it. The video and audio quality is there too. In the featurette, I was amazed at how clear the picture was, it was stunning! Even animated menus. Which proved very useful and it was really neat looking. This was definitely one of my favorite DVDs, techincally speaking. If you want to boast, you know, this is a pretty arrogant DVD, about features in DVD, here's one that won't disappoint.
