Video Quality

Mortal Kombat Annihilation's video transfer is smooth and excellent. This movie is highly dependent on dark scenes just because it's Mortal Kombat. Extremely deep black levels supplement its many fiery scenes as well as special effects. For a movie like Mortal Kombat where "This can't possibly be real!" is the common reaction, a combination of computer generated images and other special effects combine to get an outstanding scene, and this DVD does not disappoint. Fiery scenes and such test the full capabilities of your video display. Excellent video quality. It may even be considered a reference quality DVD for video, however, it'd be near the bottem of that list, meaning I've got some that are better.

Audio Quality

If you haven't read my review on Mortal Kombat the first of the two, then I'll explain it to you briefly. Mortal Kombat's DVD (the first movie) had terrible sound! The center channel was the only real amplified channel in the whole deal.

In Mortal Kombat Annihilation however, the situation was different. The audio on this DVD was excellent. Again not exactly reference quality but definitely a major improvement. The only thing I wish is that New Line replace my MK1 for a better. MKA's audio was great. All the times I was expecting a spear or flame or whatever to fly past my left ear, it did. In other words, the Dolby Digital 5.1 handled nicely. Just about all the Potentially Surround scenes used the opportunities to amaze me. I loved it. And the other thing, Mortal Kombat Annihilation's great upbeat soundtrack was definitely a marvel in itself. That is the main deciding factor in the 5 stars. With New Line's great audio handling, the upbeat techno music really got me into the movie.

DVD Quality

As every New Line DVD, Platinum Edition or not, they are all packed with stuff. This DVD had everything that I could think of and even things that I didn't think of. It had commentaries, and special effects stuff, and character bios, and even more. There really is nothing more to say about how packed the DVD is, because the fact that it's a New Line Home Video DVD expains the whole thing. Exceptional job.
