HISTORY COMMISSION DEDICATES SIGN
TO MEMORIALIZE DR JOSEPH SHALLCROSS

Link to pictures (MS Word): Click here

Dr. Joseph Shallcross born in 1759 in Delaware moved with his family to what is now Folcroft around 1791/2 and lived until 1801/1802 on a farm called Poplar Hall in a house first constructed by him in 1788 which is located at 425 Ashland Ave. He inherited the land from his first wife, Hannah Knowles. She died before the house was ready to live in so he remained in Delaware until he remarried and then brought his family to live in what became known as the Shallcross Homestead. Dr. Shallcross received his medical education in France and practiced in Philadelphia in the 1790's when it was the capital city of the new United States of America. Among his patients was the President of the new country, General George Washington. Dr. Shallcross died in 1811 but his descendants lived in the house until World War I and his grandson most probably used the house as a station on the Underground Railroad. The Folcroft Borough Historical Commission has designated the house as an historic site. On Nov. 23, 2013 the Commission dedicated a sign on the Shallcross/Primos corner to memorialize Dr. Joseph Shallcross.

RECYCLING CONTAINERS AVAILABLE
As part of Folcroft's Recycling efforts we are using the state aid that we receive, which is based on the amount of recyclible materials our Borough generates, to again provide RECYCLING CONTAINERS. They are green with the borough logo on them. An owner or renter of a residential home is required to use these containers (weekly pickup on Wednesdays) and if you don't have a Folcroft container you can get one at no charge. Businesses and apartment tenants recycle using other pickup services and different containers.

Residents of single family homes can pick up a container at the borough building Saturday Oct. 12th from 10 am to 3 pm in the Gym using the back entrance to the borough building; starting Monday Oct. 14th pickup is from the borough office any weekday from 10am to 3pm. ID showing name and address will be requested.

Folcroft Community Notification System
Our borough is initiating a Community Notification System, by licensing the "CodeRED" high-speed notification program from the Emergency Communications Network. This Community Notification System will enable borough officials to quickly deliver emergency messages to residents and to keep residents aware of activities occurring in the borough.

The CodeRed database contains most, BUT NOT ALL, of the landline residential and business numbers in Folcroft. All businesses are urged to register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number.

You can add/update/verify your information online at CodeRED's enrollment page CLICK HERE...
OR
Those without Internet access may call Folcroft's borough office 610-522-1305, Mon - Fri 9am to 3pm to supply their information over the phone or add additional phone numbers.

Residents can "op-out" of the system and be placed on a no call list using the same Code Red enrollment page or calling the borough.
