George is one of the Broyles pioneers of Indiana. Along with Tobias of Cyrus, and Matthias of Jacob, George extablished the Family in that state in the 1810's. As was customary with the NC branch, he and his descendants used the name Briles.

Several pieces of evidence show that George was a son of Frederick. First, his birth year is right to be a child of Frederick. Second, the baptism account below appears to refer to him. Third, the land transactions in Randolph and Rowan Cos. show Frederick distributing his lands to his heirs prior to his death.

Baptismal records of Pilgrim Church in Davidson Co., NC, prove the first three of George's children. Traditionary evidence also assigns a son William B. and/or Ephraim to George. Ephraim was really the son of Tobias, as proven by the settlement of Tobias's estate. There is no baptismal record for William B., and he seems to be confused with William P.T. Briles who married in Harrison Co., IN, in 1842. This second William may have been a son of Ephraim of Tobias. Note that there is a census entry for a William Briles in Jackson Co., IN, in 1820. He may be the son of George.

According to the census record, George also raised from birth a Wesley Briles, born 1819. Wesley may have been George's son by first wife Barbara, but note that Barbara would have been around 45 years of age. As well, they seem to have had no children in the period after 1804, so it is surprising to see them with a new child in 1819. Nonetheless, it is possible. The record below shows that Barbara was alive in 1816. Perhaps Barbara died shortly after Wesley's birth since she is not found in the 1820 census. Another possibility is that Wesley was an illegitimate child of George's daughter Elizabeth.

20 Jan 1772 - Reverend George Soelle visited Conrad Briles' home and baptised his grandson George. "On Thursday, the 20th, I came in heavy rain to Curtle Bryel's house. These people are the parents of the one who took his own life late last year because of pangs of conscience and fear...The aged mother took me aside and poured out the distress which she had been feeling for many a year...At the close I baptized the younger Bryle's little son, George, after I had made a statement about baptism." This last phrase appears to refer to Frederick's son George. The first part of the account refers to Michael's suicide in 1771. [76]

Aug 1815 - Frederic Briles of Randolph Co. lets George Briles of Rowan Co., N.C. have 200 acres on both sides of Hambey's Creek next to Gasper Sprinker (?), also another 52 acres on Hambey's Creek next to Jacob Lop and Gasper Brinkle (?), for $500. wit: Ansel Pearce and John Briles. Proven this date. Book 20:476

1816 - Georg Breil and wife, Henrich Breil and wife, and Adam Breil are communicants at Easter service at the Pilgrim Reformed Church, near Lexington, NC. [103] This is their last listing in the records, indicating that they left the area shortly thereafter.

1816 - George sells land in Rowan Co. (now Davidson Co.) to William Dobson. [102]4:512

- George and family move to Harrison Co., Ind.
