John Wayland had substantial holdings at his death, indicating that he was quite a successful farmer. Catherine survived him for many years, and she appears to have remained active until past the age of 80. She lived to be around 100 years old! (Her brother Michael was also long lived.)

John's will names only one child, daughter Margaret. The rest of the children are taken from an inventory of articles that was made at the time of John's will. It lists the heirs and which articles they had been given as 'early inheritance' prior to John's death. Given the size of his estate, this was a very prudent measure.

8 Aug 1751 - Catherine Weyland sponsors a child of Nicholas Crigler.

1757...1775 - Catherine and John were sponsors for the children of Nicholas Broyles. [1]

19 Aug 1762 - John Wayland buys 64 acres from Adam and Mary Broil on White Oak Run. [1]

30 Mar 1763 - John witnesses the will of Adam Wilhite {W & M, 242}

19 May 1763 - Catherine is mentioned in her father's will as Catherine Wayland. She inherits part of the estate. Culpeper Co., VA. [3]1:29

22 Jan 1772 - John and Catherine sell 200 acres to Adam Yager. Adam Broyle is witness. [67]:242

26 Jul 1779 - John and Catherine sell land to John Deer, Jr. [67]:242

1779 - John sells 205 acres to George Laymen. [1]

2 Feb 1793 - John Wayland makes his will. Culpeper Co., VA.

22 Mar 1804 - John's will is probated. wit: William Herndon, George arrison, Leevinor Watson, Rodah Jarrell. [1] Catherine Wayland is named executor of her husband's will and her bond is signed by Matthias Weaver, Jacob Souther, Cornelius Wayland. Appraisers are George Howison, John Wilhoit, George Crisler. Madison Co., VA.

1810 - Catherine is listed in the census of Madison Co., VA. She owns five slaves.

1775...1811 - Catherine is frequently found on the communion rolls of Hebron Church, and until his death, John's name appears with hers ccasionally. [1]

1820 - She is again listed in the census of Madison Co., VA, with her five slaves.

22 Jun 1831 - Matthias Weaver is named administrator of Catherine's estate. Madison Co., VA. [1]

There is some question of who Andrew's father is. [42] states without proof that he is a son of Michael. If he is a Greene Co. Broyles, as indicated by his marriage there, then he might also be a son of Matthias. In the 1880 census, Andrew's son Cain states that both of his parents were born in Tennessee. This adds some weight to him being a son of Michael or Matthias, but it cannot be counted on too heavily.

[64] indicates that he might be descended from the North Carolina branch of the family, which is supported by the way his name is spelled. If so, he would probably be a son of George of Conrad or Adam of Conrad. Adam moved from North Carolina to Tennessee sometime before 1790. The best support of this theory is that Andrew is found with George and Jacob, both sons of Adam, in Madison Co., AL, in 1815.

From his record we can see that Andrew was something of an explorer, moving every few years until finally settling down in Fayette Co., TN.

1813 & 1815 - Andrew Briles/Broils is on the tax list of Madison Co., AL. [3]4:20 He was not on the tax list in 1811 or 1812, so he appears to have moved to Alabama around 1812. Also found in the same county are George and Jacob, sons of Adam of Conrad.

- Andrew moves to Limestone Co., AL.

1819 & 1820 - Andrew Briles is listed in a special census of Limestone Co., AL. The census, besides counting taxable people, tallies the cotton production in the County. Andrew is listed as having 10 acres of cotton production, which yielded him 7 350 pound bales. He has 3 sons and 5 daughters. [63]

c. 1825 - Andrew moves to Hardeman Co., TN. This is so because his daughters Mary and Mahalia marry in this county in 1826 and 1828. Daughter Rebecca was born in Alabama c. 1823.

c. 1829 - Andrew moves to Fayette Co., TN.

1831 - Andrew Bryles sells to (son-in-law) Eathan A. Murphy in Hardeman Co., TN. [65]D:176

16 Aug 1833 - Andrew and Marcus have 274 acres of land surveyed in Fayette Co., TN. The claim was founded on a warrant to a Charles Bryles. [64]

1840 - Andrew and Anne appear to be living with in the household of their son Marcus in Fayette Co., TN. [5]

3 Jan 1842 - "Andrew Bryles, Smyth Baxter, and John Allen are appointed commissioners to examine into the condition and health of Sarah Sanders, a pauper of this county now at Wm. Gibson's." [66]B:209

1 Apr 1844 - Andrew Briles and Peter Phillips of district #14 are named urors for the forthcoming May 1844 Court Session. [66]B:530

7 Jul 1845 - Marcus B. Bryles is appointed administrator of the estate of Andrew Bryles, deceased. A bond of $8000 was put up by him. sec: John Holloway, Nathaniel P. Tatum, George Pinchback [64]

15 Dec 1849 - Anny Bryles deeds a gift, with love and affection, to her son, Cain Bryles. The deed was for a slave. wit: W.P. McKinstry, Madison Chisum. [64]
