Aaron married at the very late age of 55! This improbable occurrence is supported by the evidence: He is not listed on his own in the census until 1830, and appears to be living with his brothers in earlier years.

His wife Liddy's name is given as Spalding and Spadling by other sources.

1775 - Zacharias Broyles was a sponsor at the baptism of Aaron. [3]3:95

c. 1809 - Aaron's father moved the family to Monroe Co., VA. [3]1:123}

1810...1836 - Aaron is listed on the tax rolls of Monroe Co., VA. He was excluded from taxes in the years 1821-26 and 1831-36. [51] This last exclusion was probably given because he had reached the age of 55, after which taxpayers were exempted on account of age. The earlier exclusion may have been caused by an inability to pay.

11 Oct 1823 - Aaron is named in his father's will. Monroe Co., VA. [52]

1830 - He is listed on the census rolls in Monroe Co., VA. At least it is probably him, despite an error in his birthdate as 1780-1790. Note that this is an unusual listing in that he has two old women (one aged 90 to 100 years who could be his mother) and one young man (who might be Allen Broyles) living with him and his new wife.

16 Jan 1837 - The will of Aaron Broyles is proven in court by Joel Stodghill and Thomas Biggs. No executor was named in the will, and Aaron's wife does not want to be executrix, so the court names Robert Coalter. William Stodghill and James M. Coalter are appointed to appraise the estate. The will mentions wife Liddy, son John, daugther Lucy, and Absalom Broyles (Aaron's brother). Monroe Co., VA [52]

Jan 1838 - The inventory of Aaron's estate is returned. [52]

- Aaron's widow Liddy does not appear to have remarried under the name Broyles. [6]

1850 - The children are living with the family of Thomas Crawford, in Monroe Co., VA {961:415}
