The Mission of DeRyan Theatre Workshop

DeRyan Theatre Workshop's mission is to promote creativity through instruction and to produce and support new productions of artistic merit. We seek to collaborate with writers and performers of all ages in a mutual learning experience to help them to develop their craft. This includes working with them to build characterizations and routines that can be easily called up in musical theater. Our quest is to integrate the younger generation into the theatre, and with our diverse population, we can expect multi-cutural, multi-generational and multi-faceted productions during the millenium. DeRyan Theatre Workshop is an autonomous for-profit organization seeking to enlighten, enhance and expand the lives of many people by providing access to the theater industry. Our goal for the future is to change the face of the American musical theatre by incorporating an eclectic sound of music appealing to all age groups. In doing so, we hope to create a new trend in musicals to help revitalize our theaters.

Future workshops include:

  • New Play Development Program (new dramatists)
  • Playwright's Exchange (supportive criticism and improvisation)
  • Musical Theatre
  • Stand-Up Comedy Theatre (inspired by Rob Becken's "Defending the Caveman")
  • Rap Theatre Workshop (inspired by Savion Glover's "Bring In 'Da Noise, Bring In 'Da Funk" - a soulful mix of blues, rap, hip-hop and tap - open to young rap enthusiasts, musicians and dancers)
  • Children's Summer Camp Theatre (classes and workshops to build your child's self-esteem, confidence and creativity)
