1. This work is still, as the saying goes, Under Construction. As of the time of this writing (24 April, 1998), a large number of projected links, cross-references, and graphics have yet to be integrated into the main hypertext. Nevertheless, I have chosen to post this "beta" copy to the 'net in order to solicite comments, suggestions, criticism, and to root out typos and other errors. Please bear this in mind while you peruse this text. I hope to post a final product by the summer of 1998, including an option to download the entire text for local installation; until then, I would appreciate any comments anyone may have on this project.
OBLIGATORY FILE SIZE WARNING: This text is being designed primarily with downloading and local installation in mind. Therefore, some of the files in this text are quite large; if you are using a dial-up connection, please allow some time for them to download.
Please note the following recommended minimum requirements to view
this text:
Netscape Navigator/Communicator v.3.0 or better; Communicator
v.4.0 recommended
Microsoft Internet Explorer v.3.0 or better; Internet Explorer
v.4.0 recommended (see note below)
Older, less sophisticated browsers (Netscape Navigator v.2.0, Mosaic, AOL, etc.) will probably still work with this text, but it is highly recommended that you use one of the more advanced browsers listed above. The final version of this text will have options for use with older browsers.

2. ATTENTION WEBMASTERS!
This site will not be the permanent location of this text. It
is only being posted here as a temporary measure while the hypertext as
a whole is undergoing construction. When completed, this text will
be posted as usual to OMACL's main website at U. of C. Berkeley.
Until then, please DO NOT establish a link on your webpage to this site
UNLESS you indicate that this site is purely temporary and will very likely
disappear in a few months time. Thank you.
3. ATTENTION MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER USERS!
While this text is being assembled with the aim of being fully compatible
with the two most popular browsers on the market today, it has come to
our attention that this ideal has not been wholly realized at this time.
Since each browser uses HTML and Java/Javascript commands differently,
some of the links and features in this text may work properly on one browser,
but not at all on the other. For the moment, we have chosen to standardize
under Netscape's syntax, as we are more familiar with it than that used
by Microsoft. The final version of this text, when it is released,
will have tags compatible to both browsers; until then, it is recommended
that this text be viewed using Netscape's browser rather than Microsoft's.
UPDATE (4/28/98) -- I have temporarily removed all Javascript
code to troubleshoot some problems, so for the moment this text should
work under MS Internet Explorer. If any I.E. users
find any glitches, please let me know.
