One day, I got a phone call from an editor I had worked with at Macmillan named Harold Underdown. He had moved to Orchard Books and had an idea. "Let's do a book about supermarkets. I think kids will love it because it's a part of their everyday life. Mom takes them shopping, right? What do you think?" Since I myself actually love grocery shopping (it's true. I do), I was immediately receptive. Within 3 days, I had a commitment from The Big Y in Pittsfield, Mass to help me do the book. Let me tell you, I had a blast. I also came home with over $500 worth of groceries. You should see the prices!!!
