![]() Book number three in the World Of My Own Series, found me in Milwaukee. There is a thriving American Indian community there, with a school that includes children from five different tribes. The school is all-Indian, and it is financed by the high stakes bingo hall run by the Potawatomi tribe. Proof of Indian heritage is required before you can be admitted into the school, and even then there is a long waiting list. By the way, I was told by Mitch Walking Elk, the school's cultural director, that American Indian is politically correct, while Native American is not. So I do what he says. If you met him, you would too. Published by Lodestar Books, © David Hautzig and Kathy Krull, 1995. |
