I was inspired to design a monochromatic quilt after canoeing in Caddo Lake in East Texas. The aerial view of the river in the center panel is a combination of swampland near the Mississippi River, in Louisiana and in East Texas. The details come from years of sketches made while camping and canoeing in these areas. There are frogs' eggs, tadpoles and frog, a cormorant wing, and an American alligator. The raw silk on the reverse side of this quilt is batiked with turtles, lizards, and snakes. (Hand-quilted by Mary Ann Zwartjes, Dallas TX.)
