Universal Studios has announced the production of Jurassic Park III for Spring 2000 release. Steven Spielberg will produce but not direct. Michael Crichton is working on the screenplay.
• The Flintstones II - Release date not known.

The Other Purple Dinosaur - Dino - may be back on the big screen. A new Flintstones movie is "in development." That means that they are thinking about it and the producer and the screenwriter are getting paid, but they might not make the movie.

Based upon the original novel, The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle, author of Sherlock Holmes, this projected feature film promises to be better than the version made in Canada a few years ago.

John Landis wanted to make a feature film of Conan Doyle's book, but Universal Studios decided that they would make Jurassic Park 2 - The Lost World instead. We wonder why. Anyway. Landis didn't quite give up on the idea. But instead of a feature film, he will now produce a television series with, we think, one-hour episodes. There may be a two-hour first episode.

The picture seems to be indefinitely on hold. The producer, Jon Davison, has moved temporaily to another project. The director, Phil Tippett is still working on other projects.
20-September-1998
Jon Davison, producer of Robocop and Starship Troopers is producing "Expedition" for Walt Disney Pictures. The story has to do with an expedition to another planet (or maybe to another dimension!) Details are SUPER-SECRET!  It is not based upon the Wayne Barlowe book of the same name. Script development is underway.
Meanwhile, Phil Tippett is working on some CG effects for The Incredible Mr. Limpet.

Phil Tippett is definitely working on Expedition which will be a "CGI" film. "Can't Grasp it?" Hmmmm. Oh yeah. Computer Graphic Imagery. We're pretty sure it is about dinosaurs and is is an "adventure." Phil is going to direct this one!

Phil Tippett, the genius behind the bugs in Starship Troopers, may or may not be making a film for Disney which may or may not be a "documentary"about dinosaurs. The Internet Movie Database has this confused with the Dinosaur movie, but our sources tell us that they are two different projects. But we can't find out much else, yet.

A group of Japanese news reporters is in The Big Apple to visit the Madison Square Park setting of Godzilla 1998. The production will host their visit on Saturday, May 17, 1997. We'll bet they are happy to see a city besides Tokyo get stomped this time!

The newest Godzilla movie will be set in the United States, possibly in Texas (a BIG state!). Godzilla will probably be a CG Godzilla instead of a man in a suit. Various versions of the script have been prepared, and various people have been mentioned along with the project.

T-Rex: Back to The Cretaceous will premiere in New York City and a city in California the first week of October, 1998.

Yup! They are working away on this kewl movie. Very soon, we will have BIG NEWS about this BIG IMAX movie. We know the stars and where it was shot and all kinds of stuff, but we're not telling yet.
Dateline: 15 May, 1997, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Production is underway on the first IMAX 3D dinosaur movie. The T. rex will be done with CG (computer graphics) and backgrounds will be real. Story is not yet known, but at least some test footage has already been shot.

The Lost World home video is now available! Bring those dinos home! Hear those bad boys yell and scream and growl and bite. Drive your parents crazy and turn the volume way, way up! This is an especially good trick to play at 2 am when you are supposed to be sleeping. NOTE TO PARENTS: Try waking your kids up at 2 am with dino screams. See if they like it as much as you do! Some lucky moviegoers got to see a way cool trailer for Jurassic Park 2 - The Lost World. Certain movie theatres were equipped with strobe lights that flashed just like lightning when the T.rex appeared on the movie screen. Special posters in the lobby "warned" the audience that they were going to see something really different and scary!

Steven Spielberg is in production on the sequel to the blockbuster Jurassic Park. Based upon Michael Crichton's best-seller The Lost World, there are dinosaurs galore!
 
Just this week (November 4, 1996) David Koepp directed a sequence of the new film set in New York City's subway system!

• Barney's Great Adventure

The original purple dinosaur is on his way to the BIG screen. Barney's first movie will open at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on March 23 with a super premiere. We hope they invite us.
25 September 1998 Update. They didn't invite us, but one of our reporters went. We'll have an article in Celluloid Dinosaurs (1960-2000) one of these days... . PS. It is now on home video.
