Ocean
of Dreams
is my second CD of original songs. In addition to making my music
available to a wider audience, I am also looking for jazz or cabaret
vocalists to perform or record my material. Id be happy to
send lead sheets to any interested singers or musicians.
Most of the songs I write
have their origin in a word, a thought or an overheard phrase. There
are a few, however, that originate from something more personal.
Dont Go Away was inspired by my father and mother.
I Love You So, the lullaby that closes this album, was
inspired by my daughter, Lily.
I am delighted and overwhelmed
with these renditions of my songs. I guess that isnt surprising
given the caliber of the musicians, Billy Novick, Paul Schmeling,
Marshall Wood, John Wheatley, and Bill Reynolds, and the talents
of the vocalists, Debra Mann and Dane Vannatter. I continue to be
in awe of the musicianship of everyone involved.
Many thanks are offered:
to Debra and Dane, whose beautiful voices and moving interpretations
truly make my music come alive; to David Sparr for his technical
expertise, as well as his many musical suggestions; to Cindy Goldstein
for such beautiful cover art; to my husband Don for creating a website
for his technophobic wife; to my sister Karen for an unbelievable
amount of support and encouragement; and to Billy Novick for his
invaluable input from the beginning, along with his inspired arrangements
and playing throughout.
This CD is dedicated
to my Mom. Her smile shines through it.
Bring
Back the Moonlight
This
project was originally conceived of as a demo CD. I wanted to showcase
the songs Ive written for jazz and cabaret vocalists. In the
process of making the CD, however, I was overcome by the beauty
of Debra and Cassandres voices, as well as their interpretations
of my tunes. And the musicianship of Billy Novick, Paul Schmeling,
Marshall Wood, and Jim Gwin just took my breath away.
So
I decided the CD would have a dual purpose. First, it continues
to be a demo CD. Im looking for vocalists who are touched
in some way by the material, and would like to perform or record
any of it. (Please call or e-mail me if you fit into that category.
I love to hear different interpretations of my tunes. And I have
lots of lead sheets.) Second, I decided to offer the music to a
wider audience. I intend to distribute the CD independently through
Hargold Music.
This
album would be incomplete if I didnt thank all the people
who offered their encouragement, support, and suggestions on the
long road to its creation. They include my family Don and
Lily, Mom and Dad, Karen, and Cousin Bunny. Also, Debra
Mann, Cassandre McKinley,
Stephen Angellis, and Dane
Vannatter. Their support, in tandem with their talent meant
more than they can imagine. Many, many thanks to Billy Novick for
sharing his inspired musicianship, his limitless musical knowledge
and humor, along with his friendship all these years.
