This website will serve a variety of purposes. My aim is to provide students and parents with useful information about our class. It will provide a general outline and timeline of the units covered. You will also find information about my involvement with LIFT2, a professional development program that focuses on integrating technology into the curriculum while addressing 21st century skills. Learn how my externship experience working in industry helped me understand how to link the needs of the workplace with the changes that need to take place in our schools.
I hope you find this site both informative and entertaining. This is an exciting year. The sixth grade standards based science curriculum will consist of earth, space, and life science. Students will learn how to become effective problem-solvers in real-world situations. Therefore, in this classroom, as we learn science we will identify how it applies to our lives. In addition to reading and discussing science content, we design and carry our meaningful activities and draw conclusions based on our experience. We conduct laboratory investigations using scientific methods, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and using tools such as balances, beakers, graduated cylinders, and calculators to collect and analyze information to explain a phenomenon. Students also use computers and information technology tools to support scientific investigations. We do not use a textbook but will maintain a science binder with pertinent information. By June, you will be more than ready for the challenges of seventh grade science.
