Don's History and Interests

Born : Northampton, Massachusetts.

I like the outdoors, enjoy the woods, fishing on a warm summer day, hiking on the local ranges. I love animals and have pets- aquarium fish, a tabby cat, and a snake. My snakes are tame and very beautiful. She is a Ball Python. I have shown her to small children and senior citizens due to their docile nature. She does not bite.

I attended Greenfield Community College's Computer Aided Drafting program. There I learned manual drafting and computer 3D design. I like working with 3d models and isometric drawings. Drafting has helped me to gain insight into the structure and form of the world we live in. "New Eyes", so to speak.

I recently have become active in seeking out interesting minerals in New England. I always had a minor interest in rocks and when I was in college I did some research into the dinosaur tracks found here in the Connecticut River Valley. That really got me interested. People think "rocks" are boring. They have NO idea how wrong they are!! I read about the unique geology up and down Western Massachusetts and located some really cool places to find such stuff as fern and fish fossils, dinosaur footprints and old abandoned mines. Sometimes travelling north to New Hampshire I find Beryl, Mica, Marble and Urananite [a radioactive flourescent crust] at Ruggles Mine.
I also drive up to upstate New York to dig for herkimer diamonds at Crystal Grove Diamond Mine.

I purchased a Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II metal detector and have found hundreds of coins, 4 knives, 8 zippers, 3 matchbox cars, a harmonica, a ring and a few keys as well as a kids watch and a silver bracelet. Last summer I found a $400 Italian silver Mariner's link chain in the beach sand.

A few years ago I invested in a GPS (global positioning satellite) unit for hiking navigation and a new hi-tech treasure hunt called Geocaching. It combines high-technology satellites in orbit and low-tech hiking and searching for hidden containers. I have created many new geocaches up and down the valley and while the contents are not valuable usually it is a lot of fun and I enjoying bringing people out with me. Wanna come along on a geo-hunt? Email me! I'm looking for new friends right now. I am seeking newness and new experiences in life. I am also planning on hiking up Mt. Washington in New Hampshire in the spring. Also a numismatist, a collector of old coins. Having inheirited a large coin collection from my father, I expanded it quite a bit. My collection includes american and foreign coins from all continents and denominations. Got a can of old coins sitting around unappreciated? Donate it to me- i'll appreciate them! (smiles)

I lived in Northampton for most of my life and now live in Greenfield. I worked for JavaNet/RCN for five years and helped many people with their internet troubles. I spoke to customers for technical problems, billing issues, cancellations, password changes.. pretty much everything related to their internet accounts. I worked in a call center and I took calls from cable modem and dialup customers. The highway commute did take some time each day but is was worth it to work in the telecommunications/internet field and get valuable work experience. It's rewarding to have had a technical career and I balance that technology with my outdoor activities. I may be technical but I am far from being a computer nerd. Don't put me in a box, I have a habit of suprising people with my ability to change and adapt rapidly. I have also recently learned a lot about massage and aromatherapy. I love the smell of cedarwood and sandalwood. I am a very unique person, capable of advanced technical concepts but also very down to earth, very loving and tender, caring and thoughtful. I have never lost my human side, my gentle sensitive side like some men have from having their hearts hurt. I have been in several long-term relationships and did learn a lot from them. I am single again and ready for new times and fun with new friends and / or a partner in life.

I originally made these pages as a timesaver for myself at work but found along the way I had learned a lot about html, javascript, and web page design.
