Marathon

trophy graphic (3.2k) by DR Varg trophy graphic (3.2k)

Marathons--a few, I've known
and each was quite the task.
All rewards were mine alone
and in these I did bask.

...ran each mile with help from none,
through sun and wind and rain.
Then as fin'lly, each was done
'twas I, who got the gain!

Each of these exerting runs,
true, brought me lots of pride;
each were such exciting ones;
fulfilling me--inside.

...did depend , there is no doubt
on God's kind oversight.
He was there, with me, throughout,
with help which wasn't slight.

But I ran for only me,
assisted by His aid;
that was how, quite certainly,
the game, so long was played!

...nothing sinful in these ways;
but little did amass.
Miles were run in these displays
to make the time to pass.

Never had my sweat, one bit,

been shed for tasks inclined

t'wards the help of others--it

just never crossed my mind.

Marathons are long, indeed;

by plan and by design.

Patience, surely, one does need.

But there's a finish line!

Both a line to mark the spot
of "Start" as well as "End",
means that each are varied, not;
on each we can depend!

...might be many miles of sweat
between those lines so straight;
but its length is firm and set.
Its end, one can locate.

But, not so in daily life,
where trials, at lines don't stop!
Marathons are "made up" strife.
We, out at will can drop!

Marathoners know the word
(we think) "survivalist".
Aft' that op'ning lap occurred,
I sensed, the point, I'd missed.

Maybe God preferred that now
attention should be paid...
time is ripe to find out how
to join in Life's Parade

rather than just "solo" acts
for, there are other "deals";
no sweat if the armor "cracks";
let's find out how that feels!

Walking all those many miles
was soothing to my heart.
Moved, I was from tears to smiles;
so pleased I could take part!

All the Heroes ev'rywhere,
who, prize each day they live,
showed me it feels good to care;
we all win when we give!

Yes, some blisters I did get,
and sore, became my knee
but to walk with you, Colette,
was worth it, yes-siree!

Friendship, caring, on and on;
the list of plusses, fat!
...never ran a marathon
which gave me close to that!
