The Wall
Is Now
A Thin Veil

by David R. Varg (7-20-02)

For three years she was gone from me!
...just couldn't look her way!
I had to plod on; let her be!
My eyes, t'wards her, di'nt stray!

Her life was something I could not
just, as it was, accept!
Such pain, her presence, to me brought!
So, onward, I just crept;

and tried to focus on each day!
The Now's what I did clutch!
A gaze t'wards her; my heart said, "Hey!
Look elsewhere! ...don't, that touch!"

But now, permission I've received
to fully at her, stare!
Where once, if seen--I only grieved!
A fresh response is there!

It's like the curtain's rebuilt, new!
No more a solid wall!
It's present but...can now reach through!
And sense my dear friend Col!

What was between us: this huge mass,
which naught could penetrate!
Our contact thus, t'was none alas!
The barrier...too great!

That Wall so Great!--of Chinese lore;
seemed petty when compared.

Great Wall of China graphic (11k)
Our huge abyss; could not get o'er
'Twas hopeless, I declared!

And due to this, we could not meet!
The cleave between, too wide!
To reach across, a hopeless feat;
all closeness, hence had died!

But now the veil which us, divides
is thin just like a breath!

woman behind veil (8.6k)

We're closer, as she now resides
behind the cloak of death.

Recall, I do, she penned a note;
expressed her thoughts, sincere!
"I wish we'd met'n three years," she wrote.
Well, seems that state is here!
