Where Have All The Flowers Gone?

The Daffodils 2001
daffodils (2.51K) by DR Varg daffodils (2.51K)
...was sitting at my test set
with my safety glasses on;
they're fine when seeing things up close
but not for seeing yon.

I glanced up and looked leftward
and the view was mostly blurred
but saw a sight; a yellow glow.
I looked and I was stirred.

The contrast was intriguing
as the scene was mostly grey;
'twas all subdued and like at dusk;
all dullness was that way;

accept for this one radiant,
illuminated place;
'twas like a streaming sunbeam was
exalting that small space.

The yellow was like fire;
how it captured fast my eyes!
It emanated golden hues,
so like a bright sunrise.

Some daffodils were proudly
sitting (like on center stage),
so nobly there before me;
it, my notice, did engage.

How could I not be captured
by the sight before me, now.
The majesty of this display
could not ignore; nohow!

The sight was quite compelling
and it triggered, hence these lines;
the glowing mass before me spoke;
conveying hope-filled signs.

"The spring is near!", it broadcast!
Birth--renewal's close at hand.
The winter season's closing,
soon the scenes will look less bland.

This cry, I'm glad...could hear it;
...pleased, the message, I did get.
Not ev'ryone will see the spring;
and one of them's Colette.

Our days can seem just swarthy,
with the tinge of dusk the norm.
The world can seem just dreary
with no soothing rays, which warm.

But then a spot can forge its
way and manage through what's blurred
to help remind us: "brightness lives";
we then are reassured.

Reminders can arrive at
times, when needed very much;
perhaps this is the hand of God
that's giving us a touch.
