Enjoy The Joy

For Oh! so long aft' she was stirred,
I only sensed the void.
A mem'ry struck and I felt grief;
hence, nothing was enjoyed!

The loss was real, the pain was sharp;
and from it, could not run!
So, each reminder, when it hit
was not a welcomed one!

That beaming smile, those spark'ling eyes
that she would always wear,
reminded me of those fine days
when we, two were a pair.

And Lo! the next step always was,
awareness that this mold
was soon to crumble, causing me
such suffering, untold!

So finding value in the times
when she'd be sparked and clear
was not a course that I could choose;
that path did not appear!

But suddenly, today I sensed
a fresh response; a shift.
A new reaction, I've been shown;
and Lo! it's such a gift!

Today I walked along a trail;
so much it did revive!
'Twas here we walked...our final date;
the last day...'95!

A lot had changed but many scenes
were still just like they were.
I gazed in awe at ev'ry view;
so much, the sights did stir!

It brought me back Yes! to that day;
the feelings, in they surged!
And what resulted on this trod?
A sense of joy emerged!

The day recalled--it was our last;
Her loss, one step away!
But that progression, I ignored!
That phase was kept at bay!

I focussed on the time aroused;
and not on what next, came.
The pleasures flowed, untinged and pure;
included was no shame!

She squeezed my hand through ev'ry step,
along this gravel road.
Recalled her grip. 'Twas firm and tight.
Her deep devotion showed!

Oh, this occasion, special, was;
and here's where it did start.
And ev'ry step, she seemed to show
deep feeling in her heart!

A love-filled day, I sensed it was!
A treasure to have touched!
And all along this trek today
these mem-o-ries, I clutched!

So much, we shared this New Year's Eve;
this stroll stirred all these things!

The owl seen, the wagon ride,
all First Night happenings!

Indeed, I knew what followed this;
the ax, it shortly fell!
But...took the gift that this day was
and just on IT, did dwell!

And what a path to find--be shown;
the glee, once more to sense!
The pleasures striking, causing just
a mood of joy, immense!

The day was precious, filled with love;
forget that, I should not!
For when you get a gift--latch on
to all the pleasures brought!
