The Finish Line

by DR Varg

The reason for things taking place
I'm oft' compelled to find!
Like with the news reporter,
the whole story must be mined!

And when the answers doggedly
remain a mystery
and ev'ry circumstance seems so
bewildering to me

I've two responses beckoning:
the reaching practice kept,
hence trying, pushing, probing more
or I can just--accept.

It seems a normal tendency
to fill in ev'ry blank
and strive for what is missing;
keep the search up; pan and yank!

And perseverance does pay off;
Yes! Dedication pays.
But sometimes we must just give in
to what turns up some days!

And later on when looking back
it may seem right to, hence
again dig into all the facts
to help it all make sense;

to reach the place, like in a film,
where ev'rything's been seen
and aft' all angles are explained
"the end" is flashed on screen!

But even though we seek this stage,
this climax now attained,
in life, the journey's different!
Each moment's not explained!

My explanation-seeking though's
been endless--five plus years!
I longed for when this all gets fixed;
gets solved then disappears!

I wished so, to attain that point,
where all would be then fine;
to cross, like in a marathon,
that precious finish line!

But...seemed Colette would never be
a topic I could duck!
So long she was this boiling splash;
but now a change has struck.

She is not gone; ne'er to appear!
For that...can't ever strive!
She lives within my mem-o-ry
e'en though she's not alive.

And if she visits (she's been stirred
from some specific sight)
I need to, not ignore this state.
Accept it! Don't it, fight!

Sure! Sights do still inspire her,
but present now's this twist!
Whereas before, whene'er she'd strike
she couldn't be dismissed;

the mem'ries then would cling to me!
...was caught; could not escape!
This sequence so consistent,
like replaying an old tape!

But now I find her in my mind
then seems...out of the blue
A change occurs...I find myself
reflecting then on Sue!

We never know what's coming next
who, into we'll be bumped;
the more we seek the answers then
the more we're tripped and stumped!

So, life contains no finish line,
no blue print and no plan.
We're all forever slithering
inside a worm-filled can.

And if this concept can gain hold,
serenity's restored;
Perhaps this is what we've been told
is faith's promised reward!
