The Ol' Man
It's presence Grande--ten thousand years
it graced the mountainside.
But now, it's missing, absent;
this exalted one has died.
'Twas such an unexpected thing...
that falling of those rocks!
A landmark gone has such impact.
The hurt that's felt...it shocks!
...just seemed, so much, this mountain view
would always, present be!
So firm and stable, fixed, secure;
Look that way...it you'll see!
But last week, it came tumbling down;
that face, it disappeared!
A thing so solid, perm-a-nent
had from our lives, been sheared!
But...guess it always will exhist ;
...won't fully leave, depart.
'Twill ne'er be vanished, wiped away;
He lives on in our heart.
Seemed we were just so solid and
a structure firm and sound!
Then aft' her parting, I just felt
a blow t'was so profound!
'Twas like the Ol' Man Mountain news!
It's coming, sensed no fears!
...seemed WE HAD been together for
the last ten thousand years!
But with no warning, WE were gone!
No more a structure, firm!
The days of seeing us, a pair
were through...done was its term!
And though the tum'bling took its toll
in prodding many pains;
she'll ne'er be lost and gone from me;
our closeness lives...remains!
So...guess the Ol' Man spoke to me
when his fate did arrive.
Today he's missing but within
our mem'ries he's alive.
And this applies so poignantly
to my state with Colette!
Our structure tumbled but it lives!
Ne'er will it, I forget!
And Lo! Things Change before our eyes,
which might seem shocking, yes!
But gifts are stored forever in
the mem'ries we possess.
