Radishes

The weather, it's so pleasant; fills
my soul with such delight!
The buds are sprouting ev'rywhere!
Their colors, sharp and bright.

The air is warm and comforting.
The sun's rays--taken hold.
The winter clothes--all put away!
In shorts, today I strolled!

The lilacs are appearing, with
their fragrance, eminent!
I drive, now with the windows down;
can't miss their pleasing scent.

But one trait of a day like this,
which mars it's perfect score,
is: if you travel past a farm
you'll notice, smell manure!

And this took place today, which stirred
a long past mem-o-ry.
But my reaction aft' this strike?
A chuckle came to me!

How dif'frent from the other times,
when recollections hit.
On those occasions...seems I was
just thrown into a pit!

The memory would capture me
and fill me, then with woe!
There was no way, this to avoid;
I had to bear the blow.

But now a mem'ry crossed my path
and nothing sad's derived.
Perhaps that trend's now from the past;
an era fresh--arrived!

She shared with me, I then recalled,
(while this farm, I did pass)
she liked the taste of radishes
but Lo! they gave her gas!

But even with this feature known,
addicted, she'd become.
If they were there before her, she'd
consume a hearty sum.

She warned me of the likelihood
of what this might, hence spur.
But I don't 'member any time
when these fears did occur.

But seemingly this was a state
well known to fam'ly, friends.
I never sensed this way of hers
which, those nearby, offends.

But 'twas a time, I do recall
where this trait, mentioned was;
and when, rememb'ring this event,
a smile appears. It does!

'Twas I the driver on this day;
the helm then, I did man.
My passengers included Col
and Denny in her van.

It was a warm day (like today);
the setting, it did charm!
The air was filled with pleasantries
until we passed that farm.

The air, it changed so drastic'lly
and Denny spoke up then,
"Is that you Mom? Have you been eat-
in' radishes again?"
