Where Is Spring?
by DR Varg

The snow is flying blizzard-like;
it's such a messy blend!
Another storm...another strike!
Will winter never end?

The trees are straining due the storm;
so forceful is the breeze!
And yesterday...so bright and warm;
seems now, 'twas just a tease!

It then, so seemed that spring was here;
the season had arrived!
The sprouting buds would soon appear,
their beauty soon to thrive!

The Robins bounding ev'rywhere!
I looked--no better clue
that spring is present in the air
and winter, now is through!

But then we find THIS 'fore our eyes;
this nasty, stormy mix;
this unexpected sight. Surprise!
Seems just like '96!

Oh! Quite the woe-filled era! Yes!
A bump-filled, painful ride.
That gloomy winter seemed endless!
It wouldn't move aside!

The spring would make a visit, brief
and give a soothing taste,
then con us into a belief,
we'd surely soon be graced

with weather that was comforting
and pleasing to our soul.
I longed for that elusive spring.
That winter took its toll!

But seems we'd get a glimpse; a touch
and think 'twas here at last;
and sense it near enough to clutch
then Pow! another blast

of winter's fury in our lap;
our hopes all undermined.
Our anxious heart, now dealt a slap.
This seemed so damned unkind!

But though it seemed a true rerun
was here and playing out;
the spring of year two thousand one
is better--there's no doubt!

The similarities are there
in weather types and trends.
Yes, closely do the scenes compare,
but there the likeness ends.

That tardy spring--how much I cried
and longed for a reprieve;
but it was winter deep inside,
which caused me, then to grieve.

There's sunshine now inside my heart,

...twas none in '96!
I know the winter will depart.
That year taught me some tricks!

It's served so well to, me, remind,
Yes! spring, we'll soon attain!
Then other things, I'm sure I'll find
about, which to complain.
