I like the place where I reside;
I look and see no wrong.
From all the blessings, I can't hide;
the list is full and long!
But when I recollect the road
that brought me where I am,
I get in irritation-mode;
I look and mumble, "Damn!"
How many painful bumps there were!
How many mad'ning jabs!
Upsettedness, I soon incur.
I'm captured! Me, it grabs!
It seems I'm there; returned! Gone back!
It's now! As real as then!
And now I'm on the "other" track.

When, in this state, I do exist,
there's such anxiety!
But if one step had e'er been missed,
I'd not, where I'm now, be!
I can not dwell upon the bus
which brought me to this place.
As all around me is a plus!
The card I hold's an ace!

The questions come; an endless flow;
an explanation's sought.
I wonder when I'll fin'lly know
what led to what I got?
I long for answers I can find
from some insightful source.
So, to her motives, I'm not blind.
And then, can grasp her course!
I ponder why this takes place, not;
I want so longingly
to know steps taken in the plot.

I sense the need for each detail;
each central in my drive
to hence, unearth the Holy Grail;
to get there; to arrive
into a state where order's reached
and I, at last can bridge
the gap and get it fin'lly breached,
and overcome the ridge.
The key then, is to get these clues;
to find these insights lost;
And then I'm shown this is a ruse;
I've got my wires crossed.
And there is lots! It's all about!
It's everywhere I look!
It's all around! The list is stout;
it's packed in every nook!
So, Yes the path which got me here
is one not filled with peace;
and Yes, I'd like it to appear
as smoothed out--sans a crease!
But only reaching for the part
that life today, now lacks
is such a plan that's so un-smart;
that strategy distracts
from finding all the present joy;
the treasures in our sight.

What good is gained from looking past
the sights, which are so fine;
just overlooking all that vast
green landscape that is mine
and concentrating only on
the spot that's not ideal;
the picture that has not been drawn,
this practice tends to steal
from all the blessings close at hand
and well within our touch.
Prized gifts these are, let's understand
and ev'ry one, let's clutch!
"Do not spoil what you have," was taught
by one philosopher,
"by striving for what you have not."
(I heartily concur!)
"But do remember (peace it brings!)
that what you do have now,
was once among the many things
you hoped you'd get, somehow."
