There's hearts and cupids all about
displayed from beam to beam;
the signs are ev'rywhere, throughout;
promoting this day's theme.
This love array di'nt impact me
at first; I felt no yanks!
But on one shelf--what did I see?
A showcase of "Love Banks".
These items, I could not ignore!
A closer glance, I took;
these sights unlocked a long sealed door.
A settled spot was shook!
We shared one day for lovers, it
was 1995;
The perfect pair, a perfect fit;
our love was sure to thrive!
Put on, that day, my poet's hat;
some rhymes came to the fore.
It, doubtless pleased her--proving that;
our first--there'd be lots more.
My poem was not too bad, I guess;
our love it did exhort.
I did expend some effort, yes
but it was pretty short!
A two verse poem she got from me;
(this mem'ry, it still smarts)
when I got home, what did I see?
My walls were decked with hearts!
Affixed these were, all o'er the place!
T'were ev'rywhere I glanced!
The wonder showed upon my face;
my heart was touched, entranced!
I read each one and I was struck!
Each message that she penned
so matched the spot where each was stuck;
she was so fine a friend!
And these weren't just grabbed off the shelf;
preprinted, ready, canned;
she chose each message all herself!
She wrote each one by hand!

This poem would be too long if I
described them all--each one;
My pen's ink would run out, go dry;
she gave me such a ton...
The window blind, the calendar,
the fridge, the clock, the phone,
the oven, wood stove--touched by her;
the love she felt was shown!
Each one I found was such a gem!
T'were tears upon my cheeks!
And I was still discov'ring them
days afterwards--e'en weeks!
Seems ev'rywhere, signs did attest
her love for me point blank!
And then I found the heart she pressed
on Col and Dave's "Love Bank".
This too, a gift she did provide,
so when, with me she slept
and our warm bodies did collide
this bank, that record kept.
But though she added to it, dates--
mementos of our lust--
I showed, displayed ungrateful traits;
I let it gather dust.
I saw her love, each spot I'd look
and this scene, it still stirs!
But t'was one heart, for granted, took;
that one forgotten: hers.
It's no surprise, her change of heart;
so much to me, she gave
then when 'twas time to play my part;
the ball was passed to Dave,
he wasn't looking, unalert
was he. He dropped the ball!
And his kind friend, he thus so hurt.
Discouraged, then was Col.
So many hearts I found for me,
Her love, my home, did fill!
I saved each one and all've reread;
they so remind me, do
of one fine time when she once said,
"See David! I Love You!"
'Twas quite a day, I must exclaim,
as write, I do, this verse.
But that day when the next year came;
could never have been worse!
