...Was sitting with my Value Meal
and as I ate my fries,
I thought about you, once again.
Is that a big surprise?

The dining room, I glanced around;
...observed the supper crowd,
Then, I recalled a circumstance
of which I'm, not too proud.

No visit here, we ever made,
to share this atmosphere.
T'McDonald's we, at no time went
I thought, as I sat here.

Though, fast food meals are not the most
romantic sorts of date.
You'd think there'd be a time or two
we'd traveled there and ate.

Just once, in all the many months,
why didn't I suggest:
No need to cook. We're going out!
Tonight, you'll be my guest!

But I was always short on funds
(perhaps I'd always be).
To take you to McDonald's
even seemed a luxury!

But we ate well. Yes, that we did;
Though going out was rare.
You bought and fixed so many meals
for ev'ryone to share.

My invite o'er for supper
was an open one you said.
I only had to get there and
I always was well fed.

And even when I couldn't
get there, I found frequently,
a meal prepared and waiting;
you had brought it right to me.
turkey dinner (8.03K)
No need to dwell on fairness;
my mere presence was your pay.
That was your compensation.
It sufficed in ev'ry way!

Then one day you decided,
to continue, you wished not.
It's very clear, as I reflect--
How vain, the way I thought!

Although your days, I don't now share,
I know you still must eat.
So, next time you're at Shop'N Save,
please, let it be my treat.
