Breeding C2 Grendels

_________

One thing you should consider first is that grendels seem to live longer than norns. In C1, many people have reported on alt.games.creatures that they have had grendels who have lived 80 hours or more! I'm not sure yet how long they live in C2, but they seem to survive better and longer untended than norns do. They could possibly outbreed your norns simply because of their longevity. Please watch your game carefully if you're using breedable grendels. Also, you must monitor their health carefully; they don't appear on the Observation Kit until after you get the grendel/ettin selector powerup, and so you can't tell at a glance when one is ill. This could spread disease among all of your creatures - grendel, norns, and ettin - if you don't watch them.

First, you need to get fertile grendels. You see, Cyberlife didn't create them with reproductive systems. One option is to look around the web for fertile grendels and import them. Lis Morris, of The Palace of the Evil Shee, created a fertile male and female grendel (plus a fertile ettin couple is included). Note that if you import them, they'll be sent to the incubator area, so keep that in mind - move/export norns out of there first if you want to have the peace and quiet in which to train the new baby grendel properly. C1 grendels should not be converted for C2 using the "nornverter" since they come out looking like norns, so you can't really import any fertile grendels you might have created/downloaded for C1.

You can also improve the survival instincts of your egg-hatched grendels (and ettins) by getting new genetics files, also from The Palace of the Evil Shee. Unfortunately, these aren't fertile, but watch for a possible updated, fertile version.

Now, you need to make your world so that grendels can actually breed; otherwise even when they're fertile, they can't actually reproduce due to limitations in the game. You can download the grendel breeding pack COBs from Lis' Things for C2 page.
