Creatures (1)

_________

This site supports C1

People have managed to look at the biochemistry of grendels (like you can normally with your norns), and have discovered that they do not secrete glycotoxin. There is some evidence that the game might have been programmed to inject norns near them with glycotoxin, but I haven't yet seen any real harm to my norns. Weak or sick norns should be kept away from any other creature anyway, as even slapping from another norn can hurt them - see the next paragraph about the harm that hitting does. Not only that, but they also do not seem to carry disease more often than one of your norns might - the only problem with grendels is that you can't monitor their health as easily for signs of illness.

Grendels have a DNA structure very similar to that of norns; you can think of them as norns with changed voices and appearances. The difference is that Cyberlife changed their behavior so that they don't kiss, but hit regardless of what they'd intended to do. It's important to know that hitting will increase a norn's adrenaline level, and adrenaline consumes glucose like glycotoxin does. However, remember that norns hit each other fairly frequently as well, so hitting of all kinds should be carefully watched.

Also, the grendels do not see what they do as "stealing food" but just "eating" Because of where the grendel "mother" is located (up in the treehouse level, above the submarine bay), normally grendels end up in places low on food to start with, like the treehouse level or the desert island. They get hungry just like norns do.

Their grunting is not just unintelligent babble, either - watch a grendel, and you can see similiarities in their babble to that of a norn before it learns to speak English (or whatever language you taught your norns). If you manage to lure it to the computer, or use a teaching COB like the Super Speech Toy or Encyclopedia Nornica, you can teach it to speak as well! Mine seem to express their emotions more often than my norns do, and they almost never seem to forget to eat.

C1-specific pages:

  • COBs: Objects to help or hurt grendels; almost all are grendel-related or grendel-specific in some way.
  • Addons: Special world files, a new world, make grendels that are different colors, etc. - mostly files that aren't COBs.
  • Breeding: How to breed grendels.
  • Grendels: Download new grendels to inhabit your Albia.
  • Norns: Just one norn mentioned for now, but she'll be welcome in your world if you dislike grendels.
  • Grendel Mixes: Grendels that look like norns? Norns that look like grendels? They exist...

Other pages:

  • Miscellaneous: Odd or interesting grendel-related things, not having to do with playing the game.
  • Info: FAQs (Frequently Asked/Answered Questions) on various game-related topics, about alt.games.creatures, and how you can get images for your Creatures webpages.
  • JRChat: A weird and fun chat created by one of the online Creatures community members; read the instructions first, and don't be a jerk, or you'll get kicked off by an op.
  • About: Info about this website and its creator.

You can find lots of things to breed/control/kill/etc. grendels on these pages. I use the following icons to indicate important things:

  • :) This is something that is good for grendels, or pro-grendel.
  • :( This is something that is bad for grendels, or anti-grendel. I do not mark things that only trap, scare, or remove individual grendels with this, as those aren't so bad.
