The Welcoming Congregagion is a Unitarian Universalist program that encourages congregations to become more inclusive of bisexual, gay, lesbian, and/or transgender people.  It's also a way for congregations to declare that they are already inclusive and proud of it.

Here at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Milford, nine workshops were offered throughout the 2003-2004 fall and winter seasons. The workshops reduce prejudice and increase understanding and acceptance among people of different sexual orientations. Some of the workshop titles include: The Common Elements of Oppression; Religion and Homosexuality; and How Homophobia Hurts Us All.

At the Annual Meeting in May of 2004, the congregation voted unanimously to become a Welcoming Congregation as defined by the Unitarian Univesalist Association. This positive vote established the permanence of the Welcoming Congregation Committee and opened the door for continued education, social action, and community involvement on issues pertaining to the GLBT community.
