Transfer Function
In an attempt to understand better what the machine computes, we took some measurements. The chart shows the displacement of the "output" rods as a function of the setting of the big "input" dial. The top, circular glass dial is set to zero for these measurements. It's puzzling that the results are so linear.
You can see from the divisions
on the side dial that they are non-linear. The divisions spread
out as you move away from zero. This seems to exactly offset the
slide motion, which is greater at the center of the dial around
zero.
