Who is Isle of Ewe?

In 1987, Isle of Ewe was founded by Jody Hyman of New Milford, CT. Jody is a fiberartist that is interested in the presentation and preservation of the crafts of handspinning, weaving and knitting. Since 1987, Isle of Ewe has been offering handspinning lessons and demonstrations as well as spinning equipment and finished goods for sale.

Why do items cost so much? Every item is processed by hand with care and individual attention. Yarns are hand spun and washed. They are then either knitted or woven into one-of-a-kind products of the finest quality.

What's so special about Isle of Ewe? The majority of fibers used are all natural. These range from the well known--wool, mohair and cotton--to the exotic and lesser known--silk, angora, alpaca, qiviut, cashmere, camel and yak.

What's so special about these fibers? Hand spun yarns are full of life. Wool: soft, warm (even when wet), long-lasting, hard-wearing Mohair: luxurious, lustrous Cotton: soft and absorbant Silk: scrumptious, lustrous Angora: soft, delicate, 7 times warmer than wool by weight. Alpaca: soft, silky, warm, variety of natural colors qiviut: underdown of the musk ox, very fine and warm cashmere: rich, luxurious camel: warm and downy yak: very soft and warm

Who is it for? That new baby, a best friend, a special loved one (child, parent, spouse), newlyweds. Why not treat yourself!

ISLE OF EWE Lessons are given, Country Craftsman wheels, and Clemes & Clemes spinning equipment are sold by appointment.
