Drama Therapy Conflict Resolution Behavior / Attitudinal Change Communication ENACT's mission is to use interactive drama and conflict resolution techniques to facilitate personal growth, effective communication and behavioral and attitudinal change. Our techniques are interdisciplinary and drawn from a combination of concepts from the work of theater artists, educators, drama therapists, psychologists and movement therapists. Founded in 1987 as a not-for-profit arts in education company, ENACT has reached thousands of young people with our innovative drama programs tailored to meet the growing needs of individuals in schools, hospitals, day treatment centers and other organizations. While programs encourage participants to examine social issues such as peer pressure, violence, substance abuse and community awareness, we assist individuals to connect to themselves by drawing on their own experiences and feelings, ultimately heightening personal awareness and working through effective solutions in a safe contained environment. |
Besides participatory workshops, performances have become an outgrowth of our long-term work. They are produced when needed to heighten community awareness and assist individuals to further find and express their voices. In recognition of our success, this year ENACT was honored with a certificate of merit by Governor Pataki upon being awarded a grant by the Empire State Partnership Initiative, sponsored by the New York State Council on the Arts, and the New York State Department of Education.
