Welcome to the CFA Region 1 Birman Rescue/Retiree Web Page
The Breeders and Fanciers of the Birman cat are deeply concerned with the welfare and happiness of the breed. To that end, a number of people volunteer their time and effort to ensure that Birmans are assured permanent homes.
Birman Breeders are concerned about the unwanted pet population. Acting on this concern, Birman breeders have incorporated spay/neutering clauses in their sales contracts. In addition, we take the ultimate responsibility for every cat we bring into this world with a clause stating; if for any reason an owner can no longer keep the cat, and can not find a suitable home, the breeder will take the cat and care for the cat until a suitable home is found.
In order to properly manage a breeding situation, Birman breeders may occasionally offer adult Birmans "retired" from show and breeding.
If you have any questions concerning placement or availablity of rescue/retired Birmans, please contact a Region 1 Birman Rescue Coordinator
Listed below are adult Birmans available in CFA's Region 1. The North Atlantic Region encompasses all of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Pennsylvania (east of Harrisburg), and New York (east of Syracuse); in addition to Bermuda and Canada (Quebec to the Maritime Provinces).
In order to find out the terms of adoption, please contact the person indicated for the cat that you are interested in. Please be prepared to answer questions about you situation and/or complete an adoption application.
