The SGF Kid Corps is the Steve Glidden Foundation's inexhaustible volunteer army of wonderful young people. Many Kid Corps members were friends of Steve, Kayla, Melissa or Greg, but others didn't know them at all. The youngest Kid Corps member is only 3 years old, while the oldest ones are in college. The newest Kid Corps member (senior division) is Stephanie Hass, who joined in August 2005 - welcome, Stephanie!
The Kid Corps kids have helped make each and every one of SGF's activities a success. Kid Corps members have staffed our information tables at the Newton Center Harvest Fair and Newton Highlands Village Day. They also have volunteered at the Yard Sales, the Community Dances, and much more. They have wallpapered Newton with flyers and other information, sold ads to the Community Dance Program Book, personed the very popular "make-your-own-button" station at fairs and festivals, sold cold drinks at these events, and have sorted and bagged over 40,000 bottles and cans for the ongoing SGF bottle drive.
SGF Kid Corps members each get a special Steve Signature shirt to wear, and they grow up with the knowledge that they are honoring the lives of young people who cared deeply about others. They volunteer as often as they can, despite their ever-changing schedules. We have been invited by Dunkin Donuts to be guests at Fenway Park in the Dunkin Dugout each year and we use this gift to thank our most active Kid Corps members.
Anyone who harbors doubts about "today's youth" should simply meet any of our Kid Corps kids. These wonderful young people will restore your faith in the next generation. Guaranteed!
Membership in the Kid Corps costs nothing except love and energy. If you are between the ages of 0 and 24 and wish to join the SGF Kid Corps, please get in touch with us by email or phone. We'd love to have you join.
We will soon unveil the Pay It Forward Zone, featuring Kid Corps members who have helped others less fortunate. Stay tuned as we develop this new initiative!
