Objective: Taking the first letter of your last name, select an interesting font and use Adobe Illustrator to slice the letter into its component pieces. Create a balanced composition using two of those pieces. The result will then be tiled with itself to create a larger composition using a strict grid layout. Analysis: This project was an assignment for a foundation digital design course at DePaul University. I used a vaguely "golden section" and scale variation method of arrangement for the dominant figures in the composition and attempted to achieve balance by distributing heavy "positive" components throughout the composition. Amazingly, most of my classmate's compositions ended-up looking very similar, likely due to the constrictive nature of the grid.
